Interesting Pokemon: Herdier

Iron your kilts all of you Scottish Americans, because today is National Tartan Day! For all of you who don't know what it is, National Tartan Day is a National U.S. holiday set for all Scottish Americans to commemorate all of the Scottish culture's accomplishments and achievements made in American history. Well, as a special treat to all you Scotts out there, I have based my Pokemon of the Day segment on the Scottish terrier, Herdier! So sit back, relax, maybe make some haggis, and enjoy my segment on Herdier!

Herdier is a normal type Pokemon introduced in generation 5. Known as the loyal dog Pokemon, it knows intimidate or sand rush as it's 2 main abilities, and scrappy as it's hidden ability. You can find them on Route 1, Route 10, The Cold Storage and P2 Laboratory.

Herdier is a Scottish terrier-like Pokemon who sports a cream colored mustache that splits into three separate arrows at the top. It's limbs and head are an orange-brown color, and it's durable cape like fur is a deep, dark blue. They have 3 toed feet, and a dark blue tail that sticks up vertically. Herdier are very loyal and faithful to their owners; they have assisted in raising Pokemon since a long time ago. It's thick fur also imitates battle armor, being able to repel many harsh attacks and does well protecting Herdier.

Herdier debuted in BW22, when Ash challenged Lenora, Nacrene City's gym leader, to a match. After a heated battle, Ash's Tepig one with a devastating flame charge.

Basically, Herdier's only weak point is it's Sp. Atk. Their Sp. Atk may be much lower than all of their other stats, but fortunately, Herdier learns no special move by level up. The only way Herdier can learn special moves is by TM, but it's not worth it because of the powerful physical moves it learns by both level up and TM.

Fortunately, Herdier's attack stat is it's highest stat, and they can learn many very powerful physical moves. Coincidentally, Herdier can only learn status and physical moves via level up. Also, Herdier's defense and Sp. Def are high, so they can repel most attacks while they strike with powerful moves. The speed stat helps along with attack and defense, because, as a relatively fast Pokemon, Herdier can strike first with powerful blows that will dwindle your opponents HP before they can get to yours. I recommend holding an attack boosting item while in battle, to assist your winning combination of superb attack, great defense and Sp. Def, and wonderful speed stat.

Over the years, Scotland has had a huge impact on American history. There are 8 places known as Scotland in the U.S., they have taught us many sports, such as golf and curling, introduced Americans to whiskey, and gave us many influential Scottish-Americans, such as Thomas Edison, Washington Irving, Woodrow Wilson and John Macintosh. Today, on National Tartan Day, we celebrate you, all of you Scottish-Americans in the pages of history, and the ones who are yet to become legends in the history of the United States of America.
